Gallery 14 proudly represents artist Melanie Denison

Melanie Denison is a Vero Beach artist whose work explores the connection between color, texture and light.  As the daughter of a creative mother who worked in the textile mills of Fall River, MA, she learned embroidery at age 6.  She graduated from UMass Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  She owned a wellness practice, Creative Comforts Massage Therapy, Lakeville MA and worked as a licensed massage therapist for many years.

The trajectory of her life changed when she moved to Cape Cod. She found an opportunity to make glass art by becoming a student of mixed media artist, Donna Mahan, at the Truro Center for the Arts.  It was like an explosion of joy and, at the same time, felt like a homecoming to her true self. She incorporates a wide range of materials and objects, including vintage glass, seashells, metal, agates, ceramics and cherished mementos, into her art which adds depth and uniqueness to her work. The concept of "Resurrection Art," where old, broken or discarded items find new life in a new form, is a powerful metaphor for transformation and renewal.  Her commissioned work enables her to create very personal pieces to commemorate lives lived and special events.

Living along the Atlantic coast the sea shore has been a constant companion and has been a major influence in her work.  Her color palette is inspired by the open sky, the ever changing shoreline and the vibrant communities enriched by the absolute beauty of their natural surroundings.
